The ETL GLOBAL VAT Group is a team of VAT experts from across Europe who help businesses manage their indirect tax obligations. They advise on a wide range of issues, including cross-border transactions, reporting requirements, and changes in legislation, always with a focus on practical solutions and strong local expertise.
Fernando Matesanz, leader of the ETL GLOBAL VAT Group and managing partner at ETL VAT Services in Spain, recently organised the second edition of the “ETL VAT Forum,” held on 8 May 2025 in Madrid. The event offered a focused look at the most pressing VAT developments currently affecting businesses across EU Member States.
- The Electronic invoicing and digital reporting trends in Europe. A comprehensive overview of the new mandatory B2B electronic invoicing and real-time Digital Reporting Requirements (DRR) introduced by the ViDA package. The package was officially adopted on 11 March 2025 and partially already entered into force, with a step-by-step implementation scheduled through to 2035.
- “Life After ViDA”. A look into the European Commission’s preliminary scoping efforts aimed at defining the next wave of enhancements beyond the ViDA framework.
- New place of supply rules for digital access to events. As of 1 January 2025, access to webinars, virtual fairs and online training is taxable at the place where the customer is established. This replaces the traditional “where the event takes place” rule. The session included practical guidance on identifying location evidence, applying geo-blocking techniques, and issuing compliant invoices.
- Corporate directors’ services and VAT. An update on the continuing legal uncertainty surrounding the VAT treatment of independent directors, in light of recent Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) case law.
- VAT in real estate transactions. The Forum also featured a technical session dedicated to the complex VAT treatment of real estate transactions, a topic that continues to generate significant uncertainty and varied interpretations across EU Member States
These topics highlight just part of the expertise offered by the ETL GLOBAL VAT Group. With a clear, cross-border approach, the group continues to advise clients on the challenges and changes shaping indirect taxation.
Looking ahead, continued professional exchange remains vital. ETL VAT Services is pleased to announce that the third edition of the ETL VAT Forum will take place in early 2026 and will be open to all indirect tax professionals who wish to be part of this growing community.
